P-3 Visa: Culturally Unique Artists, Performers, Teachers, or Coaches

The P-3 visa is for individuals or groups coming to the U.S. temporarily to perform, teach, or coach in a culturally unique program—either commercial or noncommercial.

  • Support personnel essential to the performance
“Culturally unique” refers to artistic expression, style, or technique that is distinctive to a specific country, ethnicity, religion, or group. This includes:
  • Traditional ethnic or folk performances
  • Unique musical, theatrical, or dance styles
  • Fusions of cultural traditions, if the program as a whole is rooted in cultural uniqueness

Requirements

  • Participation must be in a cultural event or series of events that promote the development or understanding of the art form
  • No minimum duration of association with the group is required
  • The individual or group must be able to demonstrate their cultural authenticity
  • Must intend to leave the U.S. after the authorized stay

  • Compensation is not a deciding factor, but low pay may be flagged by labor organizations during the consultation process
  • Not available to professional athletes or foreign media professionals
  • Essential support staff (e.g., stage crew, tour managers) can apply separately under the same classification
